Overview

Born in 1993 and based in Paris, Bryce Delplanque graduated from the Villa Arson in 2020 and is currently a resident at Poush. Winner of the Carré sur Seine Prize, he develops a pictorial practice focused on reproduction, appropriation, and the circulation of images.

He will present a solo exhibition in 2026 at POCTB in Orléans, titled “What is lost is already on the wall”. In 2024, he inaugurated Galerie Prima in Paris with “Meetlife”, and his work is shown at the Grand Palais in 2025 as part of the Art Paris fair. That same year, he also presented “Tokonoma” at Chapelle XIV, a solo exhibition curated by Eleonore Levai Belaga and Malene Wagner.

His work explores the figurative vocabulary of painting by questioning how images are produced, transformed, and transmitted. For Delplanque, the image is the starting point. Painting becomes a way of examining what he sees and what it signifies. He is particularly interested in the mechanics of looking, especially when it leads to a dehierarchization of genres, of cultural objects and popular ones, of the noble and the ordinary.

Although varied in format and technique, his paintings maintain a coherent sensibility. They reflect a pleasure in arranging things, in ordering fragments of the real, while leaving space between the original image and its reinterpretation. Delplanque copies in order to deviate, seeking to reclaim the image of the outside world by replaying it on the surface of the canvas.
